It was first established with five members, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Then on January 8, 1984, Brunei Darussalam joined, followed by Vietnam on July 28, 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on July 23, 1997 and Cambodia on April 30, 1999. The ten countries agreed to commemorate the 40th anniversary by featuring ancient or modem architectural structure from each country as the main subject or theme of the joint stamp issue, with each member issuing the same set of ten designs with its own country name and face value.
