Amplify?d from www.globalresearch.ca Obama Administration Launches Deceptive Swine Flu Propaganda Blitz

What is critical is whether or not there is legitimate, sound science to support either position; in this regard, the vaccine manufacturers and our federal health agencies have failed in the past, and continue to fail today.
Obama Administration Launches Deceptive Swine Flu Propaganda Blitz

To Counter Growing Criticism from Scientific and Medical Community

President Obama and his top health officials are engaging in a major public relations effort to divert attention away from whether its swine flu vaccine is effective and safe ? to whether there is enough of it to go around. And the media, as always, is cooperating fully. This echoes the way media debate was manipulated during the Vietnam and Iraq Wars. Instead of debating whether we should even be fighting those wars, the media debated only whether we were using the correct military strategy.

Increasing numbers of scientists and doctors are issuing harsh criticisms of the Government?s plan to vaccinate (forcibly if necessary) virtually the entire U.S. population with what they claim is a poorly tested vaccine that is not only ineffective against swine flu, but could cripple and even kill many more people than it helps.

Squeez Bacon®

few years after WWII ended, a young man working in a small restaurant in Sweden developed a new way to process bacon. By precooking it and blending it in a special way, he was able to make a fully cooked 100% bacon paste that could be squeezed from a tube. Knowing he had discovered something paradigm-shifting, young Vilhelm Lillefläsk quickly went into business. That, dear friends, is when Squeez Bacon® was born. And this delicious delectable from Sweden has finally been brought over to the USA - now with American Flavor!

Good to the last puke

Theres a little animal in Vietnam which has magical properties. Locally, its called a weasel (though technically, its a type of civet, but lets call it a weasel like the locals) and it sure likes to eat the fruit of the coffee plant. But the seeds dont sit well in its tummy, so it vomits them up

NY Times: Afghan Opium Kingpin On CIA Payroll 281009top

A bombshell article in today?s edition of the New York Times lifts the lid on how the brother of Afghan President Hamid Karzai, a suspected kingpin of the country?s booming opium trade, has been on the CIA payroll for the past eight years. However, the article serves as little more than a whitewash because it fails to address the fact that one of the primary reasons behind the 2001 invasion of Afghanistan was the agenda to reinstate the Golden Crescent drug trade.

?The agency pays (Ahmed Wali) Karzai for a variety of services, including helping to recruit an Afghan paramilitary force that operates at the C.I.A.?s direction in and around the southern city of Kandahar, Mr. Karzai?s home,? reports the Times.

An October 2008 report from the Times reveals how, after security forces discovered a huge tractor-trailer full of heroin outside Kandahar in 2004, ?Before long, the commander, Habibullah Jan, received a telephone call from Ahmed Wali Karzai,

More Troops Needed

Senator John McCain, President Obamas Republican foe last year, has largely supported his rival since the election.

But now, the Vietnam War hero and Iraq troop surge supporter is putting increasing pressure on Obama to send more troops to Afghanistan -- and do it soon.

"I agree with our commanders assessment of the security situation as deteriorating and that our civilian and military leaders urgently need more resources, including more combat troops, to turn the tide toward success," McCain writes. "I sympathize with our president, because sending men and women into harms way is the most difficult decision that a commander-in-chief must make. However, Americans are already serving in harms way in Afghanistan, and the sooner we can provide the reinforcements and resources they need, the safer and more successful they will be."

Tigers Said to be on "Verge of Extinction"

clipped by: wiccantexan
Clip Source: www.cbsnews.com
The worlds tiger population is declining fast despite efforts to save them, and new strategies are urgently needed to keep the species from dying out, international wildlife experts said Tuesday.

A Sumatran tiger with a badly injured leg is seen inside a cage, after it was caught in a villagers snare, as it waits for medical treatment at the Natural Resources Conservation Agency in Banda Aceh, Aceh province, Indonesia, Saturday, Oct. 24, 2009. There are an estimated 250 Sumatran tigers left in the wild, compared to about 1,000 in the 1970s due to poaching and habitat loss, according to the World Wildlife Fund.

"We are assembled here to save tigers that are at the verge of extinction," Nepals secretary of forest and soil conservation, Yuvaraj Bhusal, told a conference of tiger experts from 20 countries, including the 13 where wild tigers are still found.

An estimated 3,500 to 4,000 tigers now roam the worlds forests, down from the more than 100,000 estimated at the beginning of the 20th century. All the remaining tigers are in Asia.

The 13 countries where wild tigers are still found include Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Laos, Myanmar, Nepal, Russia, Thailand and Vietnam.

ASEAN Para Games

The Philippines is hosting the 3rd ASEAN Para Games, a biennial multi-sports championship for the differently disabled on December 14-21, 2005 with over 1,200 athletes from eleven (11) countries seeing action. It follows the Southeast Asian Games and is hosted by the same country where the SEA Games take place.

The Southeast Asian version of the Paralympics started in 2001 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Vietnam hosted the second meet of the games. The event expands this year to an ambitious bid to reach a wider audience and match popularity of mainstream sports events such as the SEA Games.

Over six hundred (600) gold medals are at stake in the tournament that will feature the exploits of top athletes who are visually impaired, orthopedically handicapped, intellectually disabled and those with cerebral palsy.

Oct. 23,1983 Lebanese Terrorists Bomb the Marine Barracks in Beirut

clipped by: merrie
clippers remarks: . . with Syria. Although the United States had mounted two previous successful peacekeeping operations in Lebanon in 1958 and earlier in 1982 (to facilitate the evacuation of P.L.O. forces from Beirut that had been defeated by Israel), the ignominious end of the MNF intervention brought disastrous consequences. The failure of the peacekeeping mission led to renewed fighting between Lebanese factions and the ascendancy of Hezbollah, backed by Iran and Syria. Moreover, the Marine barracks bombing, which was the deadliest terrorist attack against Americans before the 9/11 attacks, later inspired Osama bin Laden, who viewed the United States as a ?paper tiger? because of its rapid withdrawal of peacekeeping forces from Lebanon and Somalia after suffering casualties. Al Qaeda members were later dispatched to Hezbollah training camps in Lebanon, according to the 9/11 Commission Report (p. 68).

Today is the 26th anniversary of the 1983 bombing of the Marine barracks in Beirut, Lebanon, by Lebanese terrorists supported and directed by Iran. The attack, which killed 241 American servicemen (220 Marines, 16 Navy personnel, and 3 Army soldiers), was the deadliest single-day death toll for the Marines since the World War II battle of Iwo Jima and the deadliest for the U.S. military since the 1968 Tet offensive in Vietnam. The suicide truck bombing, along with a similar bombing that day that killed 58 French paratroopers, was perpetrated by the Lebanese terrorist group Hezbollah (?Party of God?), which was created, supported, and directed by Iran.

The bombing led to the February 1984 withdrawal from Lebanon of the Multinational Force (MNF), a peacekeeping contingent composed of American, British, French and Italian troops, that had been deployed to stabilize Lebanon after the September 14, 1982, assassination of Lebanese President-elect Bashir Gemayel by a Lebanese faction aligned

A Rumsfeld-era reminder about what causes Terrorism

The debate over Afghanistan -- or, more accurately, the multi-pronged effort to pressure Obama into escalating -- is looking increasingly familiar, i.e., like the "debate" over Iraq.  The New York Times is publishing articles filled with quotes from anonymous war advocates.  Permanent war-justifier Michael OHanlon is regularly featured in "news accounts" as he all but blames Obama for increasing combat deaths due to his failure to escalate the moment the military demanded it.  The New Republic is churning out pro-war screeds.  Every option is on the proverbial table except one:  not fighting the war.  And theres a widening gap between (a) public opinion (which sees Afghanistan as "turning into another Vietnam" and which opposes more troops, with 49% favoring a full or partial withdrawal)

Military Service Training Ground For Sexual Predation

clipped by: mcsmithblack
clippers remarks: This article is quite comprehensive in scope and deserves a full reading. A few more paragraphs from it follow this remark.
"Yet for decades, in spite of the terrible numbers, the military has managed with astonishing success to get away with responding to grievances like Krauses with silence, or denial, or by blaming "a few bad apples." But when individual soldiers take the blame, the system gets off the hook.

And it can be shown that the patterns of military sex crimes are old and widespread -- for generations, military service has transformed large numbers of American boys into sexual predators.

So it seems reasonable to ask if perhaps there is something about military culture or training or experience that can be identified as causative, and then, perhaps, changed."
Clip Source: www.alternet.org

Does Military Service Turn Young Men into Sexual Predators?

Every day, for four years as a West Point cadet, Tara Krause lived and worked alongside the men who had gang-raped her.

The question deserves an answer, and not a simplistic one. A 2003 survey of female veterans from Vietnam through the Gulf War found that almost 8 in 10 had been  sexually harassed during their military service, and 30 percent had been raped.

Its been almost 30 years since the rape, and Krause says she still "dance(s) the crushing daily struggle" of her own PTSD: "The nightmares, panic attacks, flashbacks, cold sweats, suicidal thoughts, zoning out, numbing all emotion and desperately avoiding triggers (reminders) -- I have become a prisoner in my own home."

For all the work she has done to heal her own injuries, she still has no answer for the question: "How do you get a group of Southern white teenagers, all of whom were Eagle Scouts, class presidents, scholars and athletes, to be capable of raping a classmate?"

Taliban luring US Troops to become HEROIN ADDICTS

afghanistanpoppydrugsheroin Report: Taliban trying to turn US troops into heroin addictsInsurgents in Afghanistan are using heroin as a tactical weapon against US forces, hoping to emulate the drug problems that plagued US troops in Vietnam and Soviet troops in Afghanistan in the 1980s, says a new investigative report.

In a report at the Daily Beast, author Gerald Posner cites "an internal US intelligence report" that "concluded [insurgents] are targeting American troops in an effort to undermine their effectiveness, while raising cash to pay for new recruits and weaponry."

afghanistanpoppydrugsheroin Report: Taliban trying to turn US troops into heroin addicts

The report brings up inevitable comparisons to the Vietnam War of the 1960s and 1970s and the Soviet war in Afghanistan that ended two decades ago. It also raises the possibility that the conflict in Afghanistan will spill over into the streets of America as returning troops bring their addictions home with them.

Posner told MSNBCs Dylan Ratigan on Tuesday that drug addiction played a major role in the military failure of those two wars.

Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN)

On August 8, 1967 the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was established. It was first established with five members, namely, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore and Thailand. Then on January 8, 1984, Brunei Darussalam joined, followed by Vietnam on July 28, 1995, Lao PDR and Myanmar on July 23, 1997 and Cambodia on April 30, 1999.

The ten countries agreed to commemorate the 40th anniversary by featuring ancient or modem architectural structure from each country as the main subject or theme of the joint stamp issue, with each member issuing the same set of ten designs with its own country name and face value.

Weapons failed US troops during Afghan firefight

clipped by: cptenaud
clippers remarks: A week ago, eight U.S. troops were killed at a base near Kamdesh, a town near Wanat. Theres no immediate evidence of weapons failures at Kamdesh, but the circumstances were eerily similar to the Wanat battle: insurgents stormed an isolated stronghold manned by American forces stretched thin by the demands of war.

Army Col. Wayne Shanks, a military spokesman in Afghanistan, said a review of the battle at Kamdesh is under way. "It is too early to make any assumptions regarding what did or didnt work correctly," he said.

Complaints about the weapons the troops carry, especially the M4, arent new. Army officials say that when properly cleaned and maintained, the M4 is a quality weapon that can pump out more than 3,000 rounds before any failures occur.

The M4 is a shorter, lighter version of the M16, which made its debut during the Vietnam war. Roughly 500,000 M4s are in service, making it the rifle troops on the front lines trust with their lives.
Clip Source: www.google.com

WASHINGTON ? In the chaos of an early morning assault on a remote U.S. outpost in eastern Afghanistan, Staff Sgt. Erich Phillips M4 carbine quit firing as militant forces surrounded the base. The machine gun he grabbed after tossing the rifle aside didnt work either.

When the battle in the small village of Wanat ended, nine U.S. soldiers lay dead and 27 more were wounded. A detailed study of the attack by a military historian found that weapons failed repeatedly at a "critical moment" during the firefight on July 13, 2008, putting the outnumbered American troops at risk of being overrun by nearly 200 insurgents.

Which raises the question: Eight years into the war against the Taliban in Afghanistan, do U.S. armed forces have the best guns money can buy?

Despite the militarys insistence that they do, a small but vocal number of troops in Afghanistan and Iraq has complained that the standard-issue M4 rifles need too much maintenance and jam at the worst possible times.

THE VIETNAM WAR WE IGNORE

clippers remarks: A CLOSER LOOK AT KEY ASPECTS OF HOW THESE MEN RETHOUGHT THEIR WAR MAY PROVE INSTRUCTIVE
Clip Source: www.nytimes.com
The Vietnam War We Ignore

AS President Obama and his advisers contemplate a new course for Afghanistan, many commentators are suggesting analogies with earlier conflicts, particularly the war in Vietnam. Such comparisons can be useful, but only if the characterizations of earlier wars are accurate and lessons are appropriately applied.

Vietnam is particularly tricky. While avoiding the missteps made there is of course a priority, few seem aware of the many successful changes in strategy undertaken in the later years of the conflict. The credit for those accomplishments goes in large part to three men: Ellsworth Bunker, who became the American ambassador to South Vietnam in 1967; William Colby, the C.I.A. officer in charge of rural ?pacification? efforts; and Gen. Creighton Abrams, who became the top American commander there in 1968.

A closer look at key aspects of how these men rethought their war may prove instructive

to those considering our options in Afghanistan today.
