Nemo - The Hero of the day Dec 4th, 1966

clipped by: jkrabbit
clippers remarks: Many people dont know about Nemo or what he did, there are many more dogs out there that have given their life for this country, there is a movement for a war dog memorial in Washington,DC but the president wont give up any land. Maybe the next one will, I would like to see it somewhere down by the wall since over 4000 dogs were lost in the Vietnam war alone.

Sentry Dog Nemo

"K-9 Hero of Tan Son Nhut"

Nemo was whelped in October 1962

He was procured by the Air Force when he was one and a half years old.

In the predawn hours of 4 December 1966, Tan Son Nhut Air Base was attacked by a large force of Viet Cong commando raiders

everal sentry dog teams stationed on preventive perimeter posts gave the initial alert and warning almost simultaneously. As a result of this early warning, security forces of the 377th Air Police Squadron successfully repelled the attack, minimizing damage to aircraft and facilities.

Although wounded, one dog handler maintained contact with the enemy and notified Central Security Control of their location and direction of travel

Nemo alerted and was released to attack the VC who had evaded earlier detection. Both handler and dog were wounded, but not before killing at least one VC

1972.  Nemo died from natural causes at the  Lackland AFB, Texas on March 15, 1973.

Obama v. King, on War and Peace

clipped by: katsteevns
clippers remarks: ?Then came the buildup in Vietnam and I watched the program broken and eviscerated as if it were some idle political plaything of a society gone mad on war, and I knew that America would never invest the necessary funds or energies in rehabilitation of its poor so long as adventures like Vietnam continued to draw men and skills and money like some demonic destructive suction tube.

?So I was increasingly compelled to see the war as an enemy of the poor and to attack it as such."

Obama v. King, on War and Peace

By Peter Dyer
December 3, 2008

Can we successfully fight for social and economic justice in the United States while simultaneously escalating a war in Asia? Barack Obama says we can. But 41 years ago, Dr Martin Luther King Jr. warned against doing exactly that.

On April 4, 1967, Dr. King

"There is at the outset a very obvious and almost facile connection between the war in Vietnam and the struggle I, and others, have been waging in America.

?A few years ago there was a shining moment in that struggle. It seemed as if there was a real promise of hope for the poor -- both black and white -- through the poverty program. There were experiments, hopes, new beginnings.

Vietnamese Agent Orange Victims Demand Accountability from US, Chemical Companies in Suit

Between 1962 and 1971 U.S. warplanes dumped about 18 million gallons of the poisonous dioxin over Vietnam. The Vietnamese government says this has left more than three million people disabled. Today, more than three decades after the end of the war the effects of Agent Orange remain.

The Second National Congress of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange just concluded in Hanoi Wednesday. Vietnamese victims continue to demand accountability and compensation from the US government as well as the largest makers of Agent Orange, Dow Chemical and Monsanto.

Dang Hong Nhut is 71-year old victim of Agent Orange. She was a part of the Vietnamese resistance for 5 years between 1961 and 1966 and was heavily sprayed with Agent Orange during that time. Since then she has had several miscarriages and now has cancer. Her husband, who was also sprayed with Agent Orange died of cancer

Defying US, Afghanistan Signs Cluster Ban

Afghanistan has defied the Bush administration and signed a new international ban on cluster bombs. The last-minute decision came as more than ninety other governments also ratified the treaty Wednesday in Oslo. The US has led a group of large nations refusing to adopt the ban. It bars use, stockpiling and trading of cluster weapons and requires signatories to clear contaminated areas within ten years. The White House reportedly urged Afghan President Hamid Karzai not to sign the treaty. Thomas Nash of the Cluster Munition Coalition welcomed the new signatories.

The US has played a central role in two of the world?s worst cases of cluster bomb attacks. The Nixon administration dropped millions of cluster bombs on Laos during the Vietnam War. And the Bush administration provided critical support to Israel?s 2006 attack on Lebanon that also left millions of unexploded bomblets on the ground.

Vietnamese security firm: Your face is easy to fake

HANOI, Vietnam--Regardless of what some people seem to think, we Asians do not all look the same. But according to the current face recognition algorithm used in laptops, our faces are all about as flat as a piece of paper.

Thats according to BKIS, the Vietnamese Internetwork Security Center that makes the antivirus software I mentioned in a blog post Monday. At a press conference here Tuesday, the company demonstrated vulnerabilities in laptops face recognition-based authentication mechanisms that let anyone log in to a computer easily with a "special" photo of the legit owner, even at the highest authentication level.

A special photo of my face is being used to log in, and it worked as well as my real face.
