Oak Hill on Love Lane, A Centennial Home

The centennial house on Love Lane, now Oak Hill Bed and Breakfast, has survived many decades of history - the Titanic tragedy, both world wars, the Great Depression, the Kennedy assassination, the 60s, the Cold and Vietnam wars and everything in between.

The feel of the Southern home is exactly what the Isenbergs want their guests to feel at Oak Hill today.  "We want to honor the tradition and the background of the house," said Debi.  "We just think its a wonderful thing that the descendants are here and they enjoy coming back to visit."

Agent Orange talks begin in Hanoi

clipped by: tabsey
clippers remarks: I suppose that the worst aspect was that people knew what they were telling the troops etc to do.

Vietnamese and US officials have met in Hanoi to discuss further funding efforts to help those affected by the use of Agent Orange during the Vietnam War.

Vietnam also called on the US  to increase its monetary contribution at a fourth annual meeting on Tuesday, as well discussing ways to continue joint efforts to clean up areas that American forces contaminated during the war.

US troops used the herbicide to destroy dense jungle in an effort to expose enemy forces during the conflict.

Vietnam says that one to four million of its residents may have suffered serious health consequences because of the poisonous spray.

Clean up efforts have focused on an airport at Danang, a former US air base in central Vietnam where American troops stored, mixed and loaded Agent Orange onto aircraft during the conflict.

The two sides have already taken temporary steps to contain dioxin,

What MLK Might Have Said About Afghanistan

clipped by: katsteevns

Echoing now is a speech from Martin Luther King Jr. on April 4, 1967. If we replace the word ?Vietnam? with ?Afghanistan,? the gist of his message is with us in the autumn of 2009:

?Somehow this madness must cease. We must stop now. I speak as a child of God and brother to the suffering poor of Afghanistan. I speak for those whose land is being laid waste, whose homes are being destroyed, whose culture is being subverted. I speak for the poor of America who are paying the double price of smashed hopes at home, and death and corruption in Afghanistan. I speak as a citizen of the world, for the world as it stands aghast at the path we have taken. I speak as one who loves America, to the leaders of our own nation: The great initiative in this war is ours; the initiative to stop it must be ours.?
