CIA Mounts Surge Into Afghanistan

The CIA is deploying teams of spies, analysts and paramilitary operatives to Afghanistan, part of a broad intelligence "surge" that will make the agencys station there among the largest in CIA history, U.S. officials say.

When complete, the CIAs presence in the country is expected to rival the size of its massive stations in Iraq and Vietnam at the height of those wars. Precise numbers are classified, but one U.S. official said the CIA already has nearly 700 employees in Afghanistan.

The influx parallels the U.S. military expansion, and comes at a time when the nations spy services are under pressure from Army Gen. Stanley McChrystal to improve intelligence on the Taliban and find ways to reverse a series of unsettling trends.

The CIAs buildup is the latest in a series of escalations there. After having only a handful of operatives in Afghanistan after the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, the agencys presence climbed to an estimated 150 by the end of 2001, and 300 at the close of 2005.

Sowing the seeds of destruction

ACORNs shady tactics made headlines last week. But their shocking radicalism is nothing new.

Heres how the tiny seed of 1960s radicalism blossomed into a well-funded, national organization with political connections reaching all the way to the White House:

THE BEGINNING

*ACORN is rooted in extreme far-left activism that wants to shut down the US government by overwhelming it with demands for welfare benefits and other forms of assistance.

In real life, OKeefe is a Fordham MBA student and Giles a ministers daughter.

"They dont like the American system of government, and would love for it to be overthrown," said ACORN expert Matthew Vadum, a senior editor at the conservative Capital Research Center in D.C.

"The whole goal is to transform America into a socialist country, or some form of socialist democracy. This group is dangerous."

*Founder Wade Rathke was a student at Williams College in 1969 and a member of the leftist Students for a New Democracy group when he dropped out to protest the Vietnam War full-time.

Yes, there is a Canada Free Press

I had the distinct pleasure to meet one of the few remaining conservatives in Canada while I was at Walter Reed last weekend. Her name is Marinka Peschmann and she writes for the Canada Free Press and and this is the article that resulted from her visit;

On the eighth anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attack on America, a band of patriots were on a special mission at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, in Washington, DC, with America?s wounded warriors. Their mission, the brainchild of 69-year old, decorated Vietnam veteran, George Samek, was to help the wounded warriors? recovery by providing them with donated laptops with webcams.

It was a joy to discuss politics with Ms. Peschmann and the article she wrote reflected the respect she had for our wounded and for the folks who donated time and money to help them. Do her a favor and click over to the article and read the whole thing - and then thank George Samek for the work he does with Gathering of Eagles and our wounded troops.
