Experts estimate that up to 10 per cent of combatants returning from the Middle East and Afghanistan may be suffering long-term mental health disorders, including post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). Now, as part of an investigation by The Age and the ABCs 4 Corners team, ADF soldiers have spoken for the first time about the horrors they have seen and the trauma they live through because of their experiences. Five soldiers, some retired and some still serving, have told Four Corners about the condition, what it means for them and their families, and what some of them perceive as a failure by the ADF to treat them adequately.
