McCain - War experience

clipped by: georgecf

We continue to stand in awe of his heroic service to his country during Vietnam, but now he shamelessly uses those experiences at every opportunity, as if it excuses him from having to answer any really tough questions about the economy or foreign policy. The answer to everything is not to mention his admittedly harrowing POW days. My experience interviewing heroes of war is that most prefer to deflect attention from themselves and let their record speak for itself. McCain seems to think that it buys him a permanent pass. But it is impossible to know how to fight the new wars if you are hopelessly lost in the old ones.

Obama and ?60s Bomber: A Look Into Crossed Paths

CHICAGO ? At a tumultuous meeting of anti-Vietnam War militants at the Chicago Coliseum in 1969, Bill Ayers helped found the radical Weathermen, launching a campaign of bombings that would target the Pentagon and United States Capitol.

Twenty-six years later, at a lunchtime meeting about school reform in a Chicago skyscraper, Barack Obama met Mr. Ayers, by then an education professor. Their paths have crossed sporadically since then, at a coffee Mr. Ayers hosted for Mr. Obama?s first run for office, on the schools project and a charitable board, and in casual encounters as Hyde Park neighbors.

Their relationship has become a touchstone for opponents of Mr. Obama, the Democratic senator, in his bid for the presidency. Video clips on YouTube, including a new advertisement that was broadcast on Friday, juxtapose Mr. Obama?s face with the young Mr. Ayers or grainy shots of the bombings.

palin--the rabid dog is at it again

"Our opponent ... is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that hes palling around with terrorists who would target their own country," Palin told a group of donors in Englewood, Colo. A deliberate attempt to smear Obama, McCains ticket-mate echoed the line at three separate events Saturday.

"This is not a man who sees America like you and I see America," she said. "We see America as a force of good in this world. We see an America of exceptionalism."

In her character attack, Palin questions Obamas association with William Ayers, a member of the Vietnam-era Weather Underground. Her reference was exaggerated at best if not outright false. No evidence shows they were "pals" or even close when they worked on community boards years ago and Ayers hosted a political event for Obama early in his career.

Obama, who was a child when the Weathermen were planting bombs, has denounced Ayers radical views and actions.

clipped by: graphictruth
clippers remarks: Apparently even crackers from the deep south are disgusted with McCain

My sister said she told him she was canvassing for Barack Obama and then asked him if hed decided if he was going to vote, and if so, who he planned on voting for. His response, she said, about knocked her off the porch.

"Well," he said. "Im gonna have to vote for that nigger cause I sure as hell aint votin for McCain. That Obama fella knows sumpin about folks like us. All McCain knows is war and Ive had enough of war."

She said he went on to explain that he has a son whos on his third tour in Iraq, which he said "jest aint right".

"I done my duty in Vietnam and then came home. Hes done his duty and they should let him come home. Let some other folks go over there and fight if they think its that damned important."
