Clipmarks | Vietnam ClipsVA: PTSD and TBI "Overblown"; Like "Football" Injuriesclipped by: cptenaudclippers remarks: VA secretary Peake suggested some of the concern about post-traumatic stress disorder and traumatic brain injury has been overblown. Many of the brain injuries are serious but some of them are akin to what anyone who played football in their youth might have suffered, Peake told Guinn. Guinn wasnt entirely satisfied with the answers. He said its a real issue for returning soldiers as well as their families, and he doesnt think job training is enough. Frankly, Peakes casually dismissive attitude sucks. Being hunted by other humans every day for 15 months, watching your friend bleed to death, and having your brain flattened like a pancake from a thousand-pound detonation are not comparable to football injuries. VA Secretary James Peake continued to show little respect for the service of Americas newest veterans yesterday by dismissing concerns about the effects of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and traumatic brain injury (TBI) in troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan. Speaking alongside Senator Ted Stevens (R-AK) in a remote Alaskan village, Peake first used the word "overblown" when discussing PTSD and TBI and then made a "football" comparison. From the Anchorage Daily News: A Vietnam veteran in Bethel, John Guinn, told Stevens and Peake he was worried about whats going to happen to the village soldiers back from the Middle East. ![]()
My, look how youve grownclipped by: The Ether CafeThanks to TV makeover shows, were used to seeing people transform themselves almost instantly from a tragic "before" to a magically beautiful "after". But the website colorwar2008.com challenged its readers to take part in a before-and-after photographic competition that would not require counting calories, rhinoplasty or a layered bob by John Frieda. The project - youngmenowme - asked participants to find pictures of themselvesas children and recreate them as they are today. The project is the latest idea of internet legend zefrank, one of the earliest bloggers and a man who has previously managed to persuade strangers from Britain and Australia, Peru and Vietnam to photograph themselves placing slices of white bread on the pavement in order to create an "Earth sandwich". "It made me remember that I was afraid of nothing, and completely comfortable doing whatever I felt I needed to do," says Alyssa Timon, who is captured scratching her bottom in both nappies and jeans. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Für die Inhalte dieses Feeds ist alleine der jeweilige Autor/Anbieter verantwortlich.
