From Viet Nam Veterans Against McCain

clipped by: sahara
clippers remarks: This does not appear to be a swiftboating tactic, they are asking him for his rebuttal, and say they will "stand down" if he can justify himself.
This is the "REAL" John McCain in living color seen belittling Delores Alfond, head of the National Alliance of POW/MIA whose brother went missing in action in Vietnam . . .

Ted Sampley, a  Vietnam Veteran and former Green Beret,  issued a  CHALLENGE to John McCain "If you can show us that the information presented in our mailer is untruthful . . .  we will Stand Down"

This CHALLENGE was issued during an interview with INSIDE EDITION on January 17, 2008.

John, family members of Vietnam POW/MIA(s) have been waiting for more then 14 years for you to have the courage to face them eye to eye in front of the American Public - Here is your opportunity for some "STRAIGHT  TALK."  Stop hiding behind your fabricated "War Hero" persona.

It is time for the American people to get to know the REAL John McCain - the John McCain that the POW/MIA families witnessed during the 1991-93 US Senate Select Committee on POW/MIA Affairs .

clippers remarks: How is this man the republican nominee????!

Its easy to find a Republican Senator who will tell you that McCain has more than once stabbed him in the back.  He is not a man of his word.  He cannot be trusted - and isnt among his senatorial colleagues.

Its far worse than that for a number of those colleagues, for McCain committed what they consider an act of treason by leaking classified information to the Washington Post about CIA secret prisons holding Moslem terrorists.

Further, its hard to trust a man who is drunk - not with booze but with his ego.  A man ego-drunk past the 3rd stage of drunkenness, and into the 4th.

A 72 year-old geezer still thinks hes a dashing fighter pilot, "Ace" McCain.

Hes rich because he dumped his crippled wife who raised his kids and waited for him during his years of captivity to have an affair with then marry a hot young blonde with millions from her millionaire father - millions that financed his run for office.

He is despised by legions of Vietnam veterans

$3 Trillion Dollar War in Middle East

clipped by: blueridge
clippers remarks: But the shedding of innocent blood, of civilians in particular, cannot be priced. But here is the economic breakdown and comparison of the cost of war in Iraq and Afghanistan thus far. It staggers the mind, and has sunk America deep in debt!

The three trillion dollar war

The cost of the Iraq and Afghanistan conflicts have grown to staggering proportions

these costs are projected to be almost ten times the cost of the first Gulf War, almost a third more than the cost of the Vietnam War, and twice that of the First World War. The only war in our history which cost more was the Second World War

The Bush Administration was wrong about the benefits of the war and it was wrong about the costs of the war. The president and his advisers expected a quick, inexpensive conflict. Instead, we have a war that is costing more than anyone could have imagined.

Most Americans have yet to feel these costs. The price in blood has been paid by our voluntary military and by hired contractors. The price in treasure has, in a sense, been financed entirely by borrowing.

operating costs (spending on the war itself, what you might call ?running expenses?) for 2008 are projected to exceed $12.5 billion a month for Iraq alone

US ?Agent Orange? Ruling Disappoints Vietnamese; Pleases Monsanto, Dow Chem

clipped by: papananook

HANOI ? Vietnamese victims of wartime ?agent orange? were disappointed by a U.S. court?s dismissal of a lawsuit against chemical companies but believe they have gathered more support for their cause, an official said on Saturday.0223 02

?We anticipated this because it is not easy suing big and powerful U.S. companies on U.S. soil and under the U.S. court system,? said Nguyen Trong Nhan, vice chairman of the Vietnam Association for Victims of Agent Orange/Dioxin.

Toxins left behind from the 1960s and 70s war are a thorn in otherwise friendly ties between the Communist Party government and Washington which have been built up around trade and business since 1995.

The lawsuit contended agent orange caused ailments, including birth defects and cancer.

Friday?s ruling by the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit in New York concluded the plaintiffs could not pursue claims against Dow Chemical Co, Monsanto Co and nearly 30 other companies.

group will take this to the U.S. Supreme Court

The Three Trillion Dollar War

The Bush Administration was wrong about the benefits of the war and it was wrong about the costs of the war. The president and his advisers expected a quick, inexpensive conflict. Instead, we have a war that is costing more than anyone could have imagined.

even in the best case scenario, these costs are projected to be almost ten times the cost of the first Gulf War, almost a third more than the cost of the Vietnam War, and twice that of the First World War. The only war in our history which cost more was the Second World War, when 16.3 million U.S. troops fought in a campaign lasting four years, at a total cost (in 2007 dollars, after adjusting for inflation) of about $5 trillion. With virtually the entire armed forces committed to fighting the Germans and Japanese, the cost per troop (in todays dollars) was less than $100,000 in 2007 dollars. By contrast, the Iraq war is costing upward of $400,000 per troop.

Most Americans have yet to feel these costs.

Conservatives say Obama lacks patriotism

clipped by: schreibe
clippers remarks: I guess the bastards are gonna try pull the "Patriotism" card again! That "Lapel Pin" has become a symbol of the opposite of "Patriotism" as far as Im concerned! What a bunch of hypocrites. I hope this country has grown up a little in the past four years.

Conservatives say Obama lacks patriotism

By NEDRA PICKLER, Associated Press Writer 47 minutes ago

Sen. Barack Obamas refusal to wear an American flag lapel pin along with a photo of him not putting his hand over his heart during the National Anthem led conservatives on Internet and in the media to question his patriotism.

Opponents of Sen. John Kerry proved in the 2004 election that voters are sensitive to suggestions that a candidate is not sufficiently patriotic. The Democratic presidential nominees campaign was torpedoed by critics of his Vietnam War record called the Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, even though he won multiple military honors and was lauded by his superiors.

"Whenever Im in the United States Senate, I pledge allegiance to the flag of the United States of America," Obama frequently tells voters.

And, he added, "I dont think you can find Barack again not putting his hand over his heart at the national anthem."

Across the Universe DVD Movie

clipped by: RobbieBay
clippers remarks: Beautiful movie, must watch. Set in America during the Vietnam War, Across the Universe is a powerful love story set against a backdrop of political and social unrest: its a story of soul-searching, self-doubt, and individual powerlessness cleverly conveyed through a multitude of Beatles songs. Like young adults all across America during the 1960s, Jude (Jim Sturgess), Lucy (Evan Rachel Wood), Max (Joe Anderson), Sadie (Dana Fuchs), Prudence (T.V. Carpio), and JoJo (Martin Luther) are in turmoil over the war; questioning their individual roles in the war effort and struggling to find a way to hold true to their beliefs while making a difference in the world.

Winter Soldier: Iraq & Afghanistan

clipped by: Geshizar
clippers remarks: Video is graphic

This is only half of the video follow the clip link for the entire clip and the Winter Soldier story.
Clip Source: ivaw.org
In 1971, a courageous group of veterans exposed the criminal nature of the Vietnam War in an event called Winter Soldier. Once again, we will demand that the voices of veterans are heard.

Once again, we are fighting for the soul of our country. We will demonstrate our patriotism by speaking out with honor and integrity instead of blindly following failed policy. Winter Soldier is a difficult but essential service to our country.

Winter Soldier: Iraq and Afghanistan will feature testimony from U.S. veterans who served in those occupations, giving an accurate account of what is really happening day in and day out, on the ground.

The four-day event will bring together veterans from across the country to testify about their experiences in Iraq and Afghanistan

Uh-Oh--Peace Symbol is Younger than Moi

clipped by: papananook
clippers remarks: Now I really feel old---geeez!

A Peace of History Turns 50

A familiar icon has reached a milestone. The peace symbol turns 50 today. Before it was a hippie fashion accessory, before it became the emblem of the Vietnam era anti-war movement, the peace symbol stood for nuclear disarmament.0221 07

The British Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament details the origins of its logo.

Designed by British artist and conscientious objector Gerald Holtom for what then was the Direct Action Committee Against Nuclear War, the bisected circle with two downward spokes combined the semaphores for the letters ?N? - two flags held down at a 45 degree angle - and ?D,? one up, one down.

0221 07

The symbol was unveiled Feb. 21, 1958, according to the New York Public Radio show ?On the Media,? and made its public debut at a 1958 Easter weekend anti-nuclear march, according to CND.

It later migrated to the U.S., where it was adopted by student pacifists and later by the anti-Vietnam War movement.
